Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen
The HBO channel began active work on the prequel to one of the most popular TV series of our time “Game of Thrones”, which was called “House of the Dragon”. This information has already been confirmed by reliable sources in an interview with Insider.
Even before the official announcement, several fan blogs of the series announced that the new show will be based on the novel by George Martin called “Dance of Dragons”, and also spread the news about the start of the casting for the roles of Viserys I Targaryen’s daughter and wife – Rainira Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. The authors of the blog also talked about the approximate start date of filming – according to their data, they will begin in 2021.
Insider sources at HBO confirmed that the casting is already underway, but did not specify which novel will form the basis of the prequel script. They also did not spread information about the location of the filming, but added that “House of the Dragon” will not be released until 2022. The production of the picture can be very delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, which interferes with the full-fledged filming process. So far, it is only known for certain that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss will not be involved in the production of the prequel.
Recall that back in October 2019, HBO representatives announced the launch of the Game of Thrones prequel, Dragon House, which will consist of 10 episodes. The action of the new series will develop 300 years before the events told in “Game of Thrones”, and in the center of the plot will be the story of one of the greatest houses of Westeros – House Targaryen. Later it was reported that George Martin and Ryan Kondal were already working hard on the script for the show.
It is noteworthy that earlier HBO has already attempted to create a spin-off fantasy saga called “The Long Night”. Last summer, the channel even filmed a pilot episode starring Naomi Watts, but later it was decided to close the project for unclear reasons.
