The series “Game of Thrones” is replete with bed scenes and cruelty: the fantasy saga has been criticized more than once for a large amount of sex and blood. However, the actors themselves did not experience great pleasure in filming these episodes. So, Nikolai Coster-Waldau, who played the role of Jaime Lannister in the series, said that it was very difficult for his colleague Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, to act in the rape scene in the pilot episode of the series.

It was really hard and humiliating for Emilia to play this role in the first episode, because what her character goes through is terrible. She was sold to the guy who rapes her, and it’s very difficult to get through, right?

– said the actor in an interview with The Times of London.

The rape took place on the wedding night of Daenerys and her husband Khal Drogo, played by Jason Momoa, and this episode is still controversial among viewers and fans of the saga. The fact is that George Martin, based on whose novel the series was filmed, in his book described this scene as a love scene, where everything happened by mutual consent. But in the series it was shown differently.

Koster-Waldau also noted that some of the female characters in the series have a lot in common: through violence, they eventually came to power. Like, for example, his on-screen sister Cersei Lannister, played by Lena Headey.

Cersei was never considered her brother’s equal just because of gender. But then she climbed to the very top. It can be argued that these two women became such because of the terrible conditions in which they grew up,

– noted the actor.

George Martin himself, by the way, was unhappy that the showrunners of the series David Benioff and Dan Weiss changed the format of the sex scene with Daenerys and Khal Drogo. In his opinion, this made the pilot run worse.
