Chulpan Khamatova in the series “Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes”
On Monday, April 13, on the channel “Russia-1” the premiere of the series “Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes” directed by Yegor Anashkin, based on the novel of the same name by Guzel Yakhina, took place. The main roles in the film were played by Chulpan Khamatova, Evgeny Morozov, Yulia Peresild, Sergei Makovetsky and other stars of Russian cinema. Despite such a cast and a lot of excitement around the long-awaited premiere, the series did not live up to viewers’ expectations – it was harshly criticized.
There is a daily rape of a quarantined people by a mediocre and wicked film about Zuleikha …

The prosecutor’s office and the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation are simply obliged to initiate a criminal case against those involved in the creation of this abomination called “Zuleikha …”. It is even impossible to imagine more disgusting! Show this shit on the state television channel – stop! There was no such thing even in the 90s!

On the eve of Victory Day, television is silent as if there is no such day. Not a single film about the Great Victory of the USSR over fascism! Moreover, they launched another Russophobic and anti-Soviet film “Zuleikha”. If this is not an information sabotage, then what?

It got not only the creators of the picture, who were accused of distorting the history of the USSR, but also the performer of the main role, Chulpan Khamatova. On Instagram, she said that after the release of the series, threats began to arrive on the screens.
I get a lot of curses in connection with the release of the film. Not only were there expected curses from the radicalized part of the Tatar society, but I was surprised to find that there was also a claim on the topic of “desecrating our history”. Not only distortions of the Tatar way of life, but also of the historical truth in general. For me dispossession is a murder, definitely a tragedy for a huge number of people. It is a crime. Moral and ethical disaster. And suddenly I find that a huge number of people think differently,
– she noted.
The reaction of the public to the actress was very surprised. According to her, she feared that the creators of the picture would be criticized for the fact that, on the contrary, they portrayed those times too softly.
On the contrary, I had fears that the reality that we showed in the film would not be harsh enough that there would be a feeling of pain and tragedy from what was happening. And it could not have occurred to my head that the claims would be of a different kind. There was no such reaction from the audience when I starred in other films about the Soviet regime, about Stalinism. Take “Children of the Arbat”, for example,
– said Khamatova.
The series takes place in 1930-1946. The main character, a young Tatar girl Zuleikha (Chulpan Khamatova), is killed by the Red Army’s husband, and she, along with another 30 exiles, are sent to hard labor in Siberia. Soon she finds out that she is pregnant, and her son Yusuf is born, who becomes the meaning of her whole life. In hard labor, she begins a romantic relationship with the enemy – the Chekist Ivan Ignatov, who shot her husband.
The first season of the series included eight episodes.
The series was also criticized by the mufti of Tatarstan Kamil Samigullin, who was outraged by the bed scene. Part of the filming took place in Tatarstan, in particular in a mosque, albeit inactive. Samigullin said that after the release of the series, Muslims began to ask him whether the shooting of the bed scene really took place there.
The indignation of Muslims is quite understandable: mockery of Muslim religious values and shrines would be an unforgivable blasphemy,
– he wrote in the telegram channel.
The obscene scene, designed to remind us of the monstrous policy of militant atheism in the recent history of our country, was shot on the set and then added to the picture with the help of editing,
